COMPANY HISTORY

Ferrus Power Ltd. was originally founded in 1988 by directors Mike Farrer and John Russell and is now recognised as one of the UK's leading manufacturers of custom switch mode power products.
 

Mike Farrer, once a design engineer for Advance Power Supplies also co-founded a company called Quel in 1982 which later combined with the distributor Powerline.

John Russell had previously worked for Coutant Electronics since 1960 until joining Mike Farrer at Quel Powerline in 1984 to set up the manufacturing of power supplies.

Quel Powerline was acquired by Chloride Electronics in 1988 who then based the company at Peterborough. With their extensive background experience in the field of SMPS design and manufacture, Mike and John realised the need for a manufacturer of custom SMPS that would have the technical expertise to work along side and support it's customers from the drawing board to the finished product and beyond. Hence Ferrus Power Ltd. was formed in 1988. By setting up process controls in line with ISO 9002 the company was soon able to obtain the necessary approval, with BABT and UL factory approval following shortly after.

In 1991 the potential of the business was realised by MEMEC PLC, a distribution company, who then promoted the growth of the company to give an annual turnover of £1.5 Million .

During the latter part of 1996 due to one of their major suppliers withdrawing its franchise, MEMEC PLC's power supply sales were decimated resulting in the closure of their sales company. As a result Ferrus Power Ltd. was negotiated back to the directors, and with it's steadily increasing database of satisfied customers, has continued to grow and expand its sales in Europe as well as the UK ever since.

An indication of the continued growth and success of Ferrus Power is reflected by the acquisition of Ferrus Power in June 2007 by the  multi national AIM listed Stadium Group PLC. As such Ferrus Power is now a sub division of Stadium Power UK but continues to trade under the worldwide recognised brand of Ferrus Power.

The highly experienced design engineers at Ferrus Power Ltd. are able to undertake any project, utilising the latest topology available in SMPS design to date. The confidence in the finished product is such that all custom products carry a 2 year guarantee as standard, with an MTBF rate of greater than 150,000 hours typical.

Typical applications include telecommunications, medical instrumentation, battery chargers, laboratory, broadcasting, ink jet/ label printers, audio/ video mixing, offshore/ oil industry, weighing machines, welding machines, oscilloscopes, computer peripherals and so on.
